As the fete has finished, the silent auction has been concluded


This year the silent auction raised the fantastic sum of £2,560.

The silent auction is a variant of the English auction in which bids are written on a sheet of paper. At the predetermined end of the auction, the highest listed bidder wins the item. Live Bids will be taken on the field at the fete from 1pm to 4.30pm.


The auction is organised by Jan and David Sprake.  


Lot 1. An insider’s tour of Hertford College, plus lunch in the dining hall for 2 people. Donated by Caroline Rice, Hertford College

Lot 2. Coffee & bacon rolls, a basket of balls for the range and a round of golf (18 holes) for four people. Donated by Pam Smith, Kirtlington Golf Club

Lot 3. A nights stay at The Dashwood, Kirtlington, to include breakfast. Donated by Scott Patterson, Manager at The Dashwood

Lot 4. A 70cl Bottle of Isle of Harris Gin 45%, Harris Gin Tea and two glasses. Isle of Harris gin, infused with sugar kelp from the Outer Hebrides. A lot to bring a smile to all gin lovers! Donated by Mike Collins

Lot 5. 'Grandpa Nick's Asian Supper Takeaway'. A delicious menu for four people to include: Chicken satay with peanut sauce, pork patties with spicy carrot sauce, Thai fishcakes with chilli sauce, green Thai chicken curry, chilli pork, sag aloo, sweet potato cakes, homemade rhubarb chutney and rice. (Reserve price: £60). Donated by Nick Heptonstall

Lot 6. Two sessions of osteopathy with Monica or Hannah. Donated by The Clinic on the Green

Lot 7. Two sessions of either Bowen Therapy, Reflexology or Reiki with Rachel Bannister. Donated by The Clinic on the Green

Lot 8. A bespoke teapot. Make teatime special with this unique centrepiece, decorated to your very own specifications. Donated by The Funky Teapot Company

Last year's successful bidder says "I was the successful bidder for last year’s lot of a bespoke painted teapot from The Funky Teapot Company. It was painted for my God daughter and her new husband  with a design I chose helped by the painter and they were absolutely delighted with it"

Lot 9. A private tour for four of beautiful Kirtlington Park, an 18th Century Palladian mansion set in rural Oxfordshire. With tea or early evening drinks, as appropriate. Dates and times to be arranged. Donated by Peter and Eleanor Buxton.

Last year's successful bidder says "The trip to Kirtlington Park was a truly memorable experience. We were warmly welcomed into the house with drinks and nibbles and spent some time talking about the history of the house and then had a guided tour. Having walked passed the house many times I had been so keen to go inside. My guests also felt it was a really special evening.  It is very impressive and special to get to see inside."

Lot 10. Three hours ironing. As a chore for many, this is well worth a bid!  Donated by Barbara Jefferies

Lot 11. Six tickets for an evening meeting at Newbury Racecourse, including car parking. Dates: Thursdays, either 5th, 12th or 26th July 2018. Donated by Richard Evans

Lot 12. One hours treatment with Lisa.  (Thai Yoga Massage, Acupuncture Tui Na.) Donated by Lisa McCutcheon

Lot 13. On hour Polo Lesson for two, to be taken by September 2018. Donated by Melissa Wadley.

Lot 16. Kirtlington Stud: A visit for 8 people on a date to be arranged (on a weekday before end of August). Arriving at 10.30am for a glass of champagne before a tour of the Stud to see mares, foals, yearlings and Stud facilities. Approx. 2 hours long. Donated by Chris Budgett

Lot 17. Two VIP passes for the British Touring Car Championship - Rockingham 11/12th August 2018. Access to the BTCC paddock at all times including the Pit Lane walkabout when there's a chance to meet the drivers for photos and autographs. In addition you can met the presentation team including Steve Rider and Louise Goodman. Donated by Louise Goodman.

Lot 18. A trial flight extra at Oxford Gliding Club! Two launches on an OGC glider. Depending on the weather, the flights will be between 10 and 20 minutes each. The winning bid will allow wonderful views of the Oxfordshire countryside and maybe have a go at controlling the glider ...what an experience! Donated by Oxford Gliding Club.

Lot 19. Large iced cake, to be on display and available at the Fete. (see photo for a previous year's stunning creation). Donated by Izzy Niner

Lot 20. A 4 ball at Bicester Hotel, Golf and Spa. (After 11am at weekends and bank holidays.) Donated by Bicester Hotel Golf & Spa.

Lot 21. A studio experience during the Kat Orman show on BBC Radio Oxford, followed by a tour, taking in the TV studios. Kindly donated by Kat Orman

Lot 22. A stunning hand made mosaic, 31cm x 40cm. The mosaic will be on display on the day of the Fete. Donated by Janet Noonan 

Lot 23. Annual Membership for Kidlington & Gosford Leisure Centre, see link for details. Donated by Kidlington & Gosford Leisure Centre. 

Lot 24. A ‘Family Pack’ selection of 30 books published over a period of 30 years by local author Haydn Middleton, ranging from children's primary age readers to adult novels, on subjects that include sport, nature, history and mythology – often with a humorous bent! The author will write a personalised inscription in each book according to the successful bidder’s wishes. Donated by Haydn Middleton

Lot 25. An ideal getaway for friends or family  - two nights at the charming 17th Century Coach House on South Green, Kirtlington, See link for details:  (subject to availability and excluding October half term). Donated by Ann Blackwell

Lot 26. If tranquillity appeals how about this: 2018/19 Membership to Kirtlington Fisheries. Set in beautiful countryside, this tree lined haven built by Capability Brown offers top quality specimen fishing. Donated by James Budgett

Lot 28. Family (2 adults & 4 children) Full Story Pass for 5 Shakespeare properties. Donated by the Shakespeare Birthplace Trust

Lot 29. 'A Mascot for a Day' at an Oxford United match of your choice for next season. Includes meeting the players, going out with the teams from the tunnel, doing some training exercises on the pitch and receiving OUFC kit (socks, shirt & shorts) to suit boy or girl. Donated by Jimmy Gamage and Oxford United

Lot 30. The successful bidder and a guest may visit the home of one of the world’s most successful Formula One teams, Williams, in Grove, Oxfordshire. Join your host for morning coffee in the Alan Jones bar, before commencing a tour of the state-of-the-art, multi-million pound Grand Prix Collection. This interactive museum houses around 40 Williams Formula One cars dating from 1978 onwards.
